Aujourd\u2019hui expos\u00e9e dans la niche du hall d\u2019entr\u00e9e du mus\u00e9e des beaux-arts de Rennes, la structure est anim\u00e9e par les principes esth\u00e9tiques de l\u2019art construit.<\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\">On doit \u00e0 Marie Berhaut, conservatrice du mus\u00e9e de 1949 \u00e0 1969, d\u2019obtenir de la ville de Rennes un cr\u00e9dit sp\u00e9cial d\u2019encouragement des arts ainsi que l\u2019aval de Georges Salles, directeur des Mus\u00e9es de France. Le 1er avril 1957, le mus\u00e9e fait donc sa r\u00e9ouverture. L\u2019\u0153uvre de Francis Pellerin fait sensation\u00a0et fait \u00e9crire \u00e0 Ren\u00e9 Massat dans<i> Les Lettres Fran\u00e7aises<\/i> :<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"JUSTIFY\">l\u2019art vivant du Mus\u00e9e n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 oubli\u00e9\u2026 Je vous l\u2019avais dit, ce mobile fait ici beaucoup parler de lui, et il le m\u00e9rite.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Francis Pellerin parlait lui-m\u00eame ainsi de son \u0153uvre :<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Me laissant enti\u00e8rement libre de concevoir ce dont la niche du mus\u00e9e vient d&rsquo;\u00eatre pourvue, Marie Berhaut fit que le projet qui en d\u00e9coula pr\u00eet effet sur mes recherches plastiques d&rsquo;alors et r\u00e9pond\u00eet \u00e0 ce qu&rsquo;elle esp\u00e9rait sans l&rsquo;avoir formul\u00e9\u2026 Se rapportant \u00e0 l&rsquo;architecture, pourquoi une telle \u0153uvre dans un b\u00e2timent de style\u00a0? Le mariage de raison e\u00fbt introduit l\u00e0 une statue conforme. Nous avons uni des \u00e9l\u00e9ments faits pour s&rsquo;\u00e9pouser et vivre de leur vie de formes. Cette mise en forme d&rsquo;une feuille de m\u00e9tal poli ne repr\u00e9sente rien qui leur soit ext\u00e9rieur, elle a son seul comportement pour objet, structuration d&rsquo;un espace architectural, int\u00e9gration \u00e0 cet espace par le mouvement. Ce groupe exp\u00e9rimental de recherches plastiques avait pour ambition de faire dialoguer plasticiens, peintres, sculpteurs et architectes se d\u00e9finissant tous comme abstraits g\u00e9om\u00e9triques. Il \u00e9tait en effet n\u00e9 en 1960 sous l\u2019impulsion d\u2019un groupe d\u2019artistes de la section g\u00e9om\u00e9trique du Salon des R\u00e9alit\u00e9s Nouvelles.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>La gen\u00e8se de l\u2019implication de Francis Pellerin est la suivante\u00a0: apr\u00e8s la participation de l\u2019artiste \u00e0 la premi\u00e8re biennale d\u2019art abstrait \u00e0 Bordeaux en 1957, Georges Folmer, alors secr\u00e9taire g\u00e9n\u00e9ral du Salon des R\u00e9alit\u00e9s Nouvelles, sollicite en 1960 de Francis Pellerin l\u2019envoi de quelques clich\u00e9s de ses \u0153uvres. Il lui propose en outre d\u2019exposer une structure au Salon de 1961, de mani\u00e8re \u00e0 cr\u00e9er, aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de trois toiles de Auguste Herbin, un ensemble coh\u00e9rent. A cette occasion, Folmer demande \u00e0 Francis Pellerin si la ville de Rennes accepterait de montrer au public quelques toiles constructivistes et pr\u00e9pare ainsi le terrain pour un transfert du Salon des R\u00e9alit\u00e9s Nouvelles \u00e0 Rennes.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Le 30 juin 1960, Francis Pellerin rencontre Marie Berhaut, conservatrice du mus\u00e9e des beaux-arts de Rennes, qui agr\u00e9e le projet d\u2019accueillir une s\u00e9lection d\u2019artistes du Salon des R\u00e9alit\u00e9s Nouvelles en f\u00e9vrier 1961. Les archives municipales de Rennes renferment l\u2019ensemble des \u00e9changes \u00e9pistolaires entre Marie Berhaut, Georges Folmer et Francis Pellerin, et t\u00e9moignent de la collaboration intense qui rendit possible la premi\u00e8re exposition du\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.francis-pellerin.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/1961-03-10_DP35-page-10.jpg\">Groupe Mesure<\/a>, du 9 mars au 30 avril (avec prolongation jusqu\u2019au 7 mai 1961). Ce devait \u00eatre l\u00e0 la seule exposition du Groupe Mesure en France.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\">Cette exposition pr\u00e9sentait des \u0153uvres des artistes suivants : Eyborg Gutmunsdottir, M.T. Janikovski, Aur\u00e9lie Nemours, Luc Peire, Roger Th\u00e9pot, L\u00e9o Breuer, Marc\u00e8le Cahn, Georges Folmer, Jean Gorin, Pierre Martin Gu\u00e9ret, Marta Boto, Carlos Cairoli, Adolphe Cieslarczyck, Maxime Descombin, Gr\u00e9goire Vardanega, et Francis Pellerin. Y figuraient aussi deux toiles de Auguste Herbin et une peinture de Frantisek Kupka.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\" align=\"JUSTIFY\">A propos de Francis Pellerin, Fran\u00e7ois Le Corbel \u00e9crira dans <i>Arts <\/i>(n\u00b0 817)\u00a0:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>La puissante personnalit\u00e9 de Francis Pellerin est l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9ment-choc du groupe. Il ne pr\u00e9sente que trois Structures, mais elles constituent l\u2019aboutissement de recherches poursuivies depuis plusieurs ann\u00e9es et dont il fait profiter ses \u00e9l\u00e8ves de l\u2019\u00e9cole des Beaux-Arts de Rennes.<\/p>\n<p>Picasso d\u00e9clarait un jour, \u00ab un tableau est un ensemble de destructions avant d\u2019\u00eatre un ensemble d\u2019affirmations\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0; jamais \u0153uvre d\u2019art n\u2019a mieux illustr\u00e9 cette phrase.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\" align=\"JUSTIFY\">Les statuts de l\u2019association Mesure sont r\u00e9dig\u00e9s le 19 mars 1962. Et lorsqu\u2019il revient \u00e0 Paris, il installe cette \u00e9bauche dans son atelier rue du Moulin de Beurre, quartier Montparnasse. Cet atelier \u00e0 Paris est ferm\u00e9 en 1969 \u00e0 cause d\u2019une expropriation.
